Easy Peasy 1.1 is just as powerful in Netbook Remix mode as in Regular Desktop mode. However, some may prefer the Regular Desktop mode, which resembles Windows and Macs, and makes it easier to view several windows at one time. ("Regular Desktop mode" is also known as "normal linux gnome desktop".)

There are two ways to get to the regular desktop interface:

1. Run Desktop-Switcher
2. Remove Netbook Interface From Startup

[edit] Run Desktop-Switcher

IT HAS BEEN REPORTED THAT SEVERAL PEOPLE ARE HAVING PROBLEMS AFTER USING Desktop-Switcher; FOR NOW IT'S RECOMMENDED THIS OPTION NOT BE USED UNLESS YOU'RE WILLING TO REINSTALL. But if you're a risk taker, thanks to the official Netbook Remix Project, changing modes might be as simple as a handful of mouse clicks. Under "Preferences", run "Switch Desktop Mode" to switch between NetBook Remix and Default Desktop (Gnome). The change takes effect immediately, and remains in effect until you change it again - even across logins and restarts.

[edit] Remove Netbook Interface From Startup

Using this option will remove the netbook interface from the system startup. To get it back, it will need to be re-added to system startup.

1. Go to Preferences and start Sessions [must be Startup Applications]
2. Uncheck Maximus and UME Desktop Launcher [must be Netbook Launcher]
3. Remove unwanted applets in the top panel by right clicking them
4. Add new applets by right clicking an empty space
5. If you find yourself with no menu to launch applications: click Alt + F1

[edit] Enable Desktop Effects (compiz)

With the netbook interface disabled, you can enable desktop effects (shadows, transparency etc.)

1. Go to Preferences > Sessions and disable netbook-launcher
2. Open a terminal
3. sudo apt-get install compiz
4. log in and out (the netbook launcher won't load)
5. Activate desktop effects in Preferences > Apperance > Desktop effects
