Install: external CD/DVD drive

First, create your bootable CD:

  • Download the Easy Peasy ISO to your hard drive from http://www.geteasypeasy.com.
  • Burn the ISO to a DVD or High Density CD. The Easy Peasy ISO is too large for a standard CD. Please also note that the Windows default CD burning utility will not burn a working ISO disc. You may need to download a free program such as http://cdburnerxp.se/.

Now install Easy Peasy:

1. Insert bootable CD or DVD into drive.

2. Turn on Eee PC.

3. When you see the grey startup screen, quickly press the ESC key a few times, and you'll get a dialog box allowing you to select the drive to boot from. Select the CD/DVD drive. Alternatively:

  • Press F2 to get into the BIOS.
  • Under the Advanced header, change OS Installation from Finished to Start.
  • Under the Boot header, choose Boot Device Priority, and make it so your USB external drive boots before the HDD.
  • Save and reboot.

4. The Eee PC will then boot to your Easy Peasy CD. Trackpad, mouse, keyboard, sound will all work.

5. Begin the install.

On certain models, you may notice that all of the install windows drop below the screen. Windows can be moved around beyond the bounds of the screen by holding the Alt key and the left mouse button down, then moving the mouse. In the standard graphical installer, if Compiz ("visual effects") is running (it is running in Ubuntu-live Gutsy by default), you won't be able to move the windows high enough with the Alt key, because they aren't allowed to pass the top edge of the screen. If you disable the visual effects (System>Preferences>Appearance>Visual Effects>None), you will now be able to move windows above the top edge of the screen in order to get at that all-important Next> button. It may be a better idea to use the alternative non-live install CD with the Eee PC.

6. When finished, remove the CD and reboot.

7. Congratulations! You now have Easy Peasy installed.
