[edit] Different ways of installing Easy Peasy on the Eee
Way of installation
Pros
Cons
From a Live Easy Peasy image on a USB stick
- You don't have to use a CD
- The installation is fast
- You need a memory card or a USB stick
With an external CD/DVD drive
- It's the default installation way
- Some computers can't boot from USB-sticks.
- You need an external CD/DVD drive
- You need to burn a DVD or HD CD
- Installation is slower than through USB
Over the Internet using a bootable USB stick
- Up-to-date packages, no need to update after installation
- Works on small USB sticks (>= 16MB)
- Slow installation due to need to download all the packages
install: from a Live Easy Peasy CD directly onto an SD card using a desktop(or laptop) pc
- Boot loader is installed onto SD card, Xandros boot loader is untouched
- The installation is VERY fast
- Eee PC can still be booted to internal HD with or without SD card in
- Slightly faster boot because Grub boot time can be 0 sec
- You need a USB/memory card adapter or an SD card slot
- You need to hold "Esc" at each power up to select boot drive
- Boot booster must be disabled in bios (seems to only affect Xandros boot)
Install over NFS from a Mac hosting the live image
- Works when you only have a Mac
(don't need a Linux or Windows machine to set things up)
- You don't need a USB drive or a CD
- You need a Mac
(but could easily be adapted for Linux)
- A bit slow to copy the files
